This is the perfect product to protect your computer. Kaspersky is a very reliable product.

Saved quite a bit of money and had no problem with activation code. I’m very happy with this purchase. Thank you.

I’ve found the bigger name virus protections to be not my cup of tea. They generally take too much space, they try to do too much and it’s almost as if they need to impress you that they’re finding “stuff” on your computer.

I’ve tended to use smaller company’s protection; it’s almost as if the #2 guy has to try harder.

I need to tell you my biases in virus protection; I think they do less than people think, but in general people should have them as we seem unable to avoid click on everything we get or see. So as a necessary evil, I want the thing to not use lots of my CPU and I don’t want it to take over my computer, adding toolbars to browsers, putting flashing icons etc etc. Just sit in the corner, and don’t do anything until there’s an actual threat.

I haven’t found that perfect virus protection yet, but Kaspersky is a step in the right direction. I use AVG on my desktop and Kaspersky on my laptop. Both use Vista 64, so keep that in mind.

First some deatils. In addition to anti-virus, Kaspersky comes with an anti-spyware component, although it’s anyone’s guess how well this works. I tend to avoid clicking on attachments or installing random software from the internet, and I use alternate browsers on Windows. So I rarely see viruses, and no I didn’t not try to infect my computer. I’ll leave that to people who have infinite time to rebuild their computer.

The interface is good, even for people who aren’t particularly computer inclined. If you like to tweak settings, Kaspersky allows that as well. I’ve found that many anti-viruses tend to give a lot of false positives. Kaspersky does that “not so much…”.

Like all installations these days, it tries to do too much, and add too much protection (again, more is not better. add the minimum).

Here’s the bottom line: I can live with Kaspersky. I don’t use their anti-spyware, their firewall, I think all of them are unnecessary in Vista and a little bit of common sense.

Kaspersky’s core anti-virus is more than competent. It doesn’t slow your computer down. If you insist on adding every last bit of protection then yes it will do that. If you want a minimal setup, it will do that too.

This will work for you and not drive you crazy. That’s a pretty good complement for software these days.

Disclaimer: I received this product for free from the Amazon Vine. I am not affiliated with Kaspersky in any way and thus my review is as honest as can be with a real world test.

I don’t like to mess around with my production systems as I am quite satisfied with the way they operate and the antivirus I use. However, when this product was offered to me I accepted it at once being that I had heard of the Kaspersky name and figured it was worth a test. I installed this in a Virtual Machine running Windows 7 Release Candidate in 64bit Mode.

The box contains the CD and a pamphlet with install directions. The activation code is on the CD Sleeve.

Installation took about 5 minutes. Once installed the software walks you through activation and various settings – which I left at default. The final portion was scheduling automatic updates (highly recommended) and doing an ‘Update Now’ (highly recommended again as it had to download about 131mb in updates to get current). Once updated you simply finish the installation and restart your computer to get going. Once it restarts it goes into an automatic update again… Taking about 2-3 minutes.. All of the downloads depend on your broadband speeds. :-)

While Running Kaspersky uses about 31-32mb of RAM as per the process monitor of Windows Task Manager. Once you get some applications started and your system is in use the memory usage jumps to about 40mb but quickly comes down and uses about 20-30mb depending on how many apps and activity on your machine.

**Please see uploaded images showing Kaspersky Console**

One of the strong points for me is the console…I love the way it looks and they way it shows you the current activity. I have uploaded a couple of screen shots showing the console and I am sure they will impress you.

The product runs on Windows 7 x64 – Flawlessly. It uses a limited amount of RAM as per their claim to fame and I can verify this. Trend Micro is my corporate AV solution and on our desktops it generally uses 64-76mb when it is running with light duty activity. Kaspersky uses half that thus making your system run faster with protection for everything in the background.

Kaspersky protects: Files (of course), Email, Web Traffic, and email. It also has an EXCELLENT feature that allows you to create a Disk Image/CD to boot from in-case your system is a victim and cannot boot.

One other nice feature is that you can have the software EMAIL you should it find anything….this way you can be on top of the situation most of the time. GREAT FEATURE.

Overall I would highly recommend this product for any users that run Windows…whether it is Vista, Xp, Windows 7, and or 32/64bit systems. It is a great product that limits the amount of RAM used while operating in the background. Windows fully recognizes its existence.

5/5 in my opinion. Please do comment on my review if you have any questions and or feedback.

QUICIK UPDATE: 06/12 – While I continue to like this product, I have learned that it does not work well in 64bit machines. I have since moved it to a 32bit install of Windows 7 RC and it works fine there.

I’ve been a fan of KAV for a long time, and this version only increases my love of the product. As with all editions of KAV, this is very light on the system- it will NOT slow your computer down. Additionally, unlike Norton and McAfee, this product can actually detect AND remove just about any virus. Whenever somebody tells me they have a virus that their other software cannot remove, I recommend the KAV trial to them to get rid of the virus- and so far it has always worked for them. The biggest downside to KAV is that it’s interface is not the most user friendly, and some of the options they ask you to choose from may not be things most computer users are familiar with.

Overall though, this release of KAV continues to build on their record of releasing great antivirus software, and I highly recommend it.

I always prefer to use Kasperky over Avast or McAfee. Kaspersky is much better in detecting new viruses and it does not consume too much resources on your dektop PC..`’
